Canelo Alvarez Defeats Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin by Unanimous Decision with No Debate FightersTalkTV.com – After the controversial scorecards overshadowed their first two meetings, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez finally proved he was the better fighter than his long-term rival Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin in the third fight on Saturday night in Las Vegas. With the unanimous decision, Alvarez wins over Golovkin with no debate and remains the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world.
Back to their two previous fights, Canelo started out strong in the first six rounds, fell apart and was outboxed and out-punched by GGG from rounds seven through twelve. Instead of a win for Golovkin, Canelo was given a draw decision at the first meeting. So it is with the second, the judges gave it to Canelo by a 12-round majority decision, while the fans thought the fight appeared to be either a draw or a win by Golovkin.
Although the scorecards may have reflected a closer fight than actually took place, Alvarez showed he is better than Golovkin in their trilogy. Canelo dominated the fight with defence and a strong combination of wide overhand rights, jabs and left hooks. He makes Golovkin spend the first eight rounds working behind a largely ineffective jab, seemingly digging himself a deep hole on the scorecards.

Things didn’t get much better for Golovkin as the rounds ticked by. Alvarez would land jabs and hooks while Golovkin would chase and miss with the majority of his punches.
It was somewhat shocking that Alvarez failed to work with the body with any regularity. Golovkin, 40, had shown a vulnerability to body shots in his recent fights and Alvarez has one of the best-left hands to the body in the sport. Still, Alvarez did not need to key in on Golovkin’s ribs as his very basic strategy had worked well.
While Alvarez had promised a knockout, he never needed to shift to a higher gear to shoot for the finish, instead working over Golovkin with simple and crisp boxing. The judges unanimously awarded Alvarez the victory on points scoring it 116-112, 115-113, 115-113

“I think towards the end of the fight I obviously started to get a bit fatigued and that’s because we’ve not been able to work explosively in the gym. But despite all the problems that we’ve had, I was really happy with my performance tonight,” he added.
“I wanted to get that KO but it didn’t come because he’s a great fighter. That’s why there are 12 rounds in a fight. So you can show and display who’s the best. So I’m really happy with what I’ve done tonight.”
For Alvarez, the focus now switches to avenging his surprise defeat to Russian Dmitry Bivol last November, after he undergoes surgery on an injured left hand.
“It’s very important for me, for my legacy, for my country, for everybody,” Alvarez admitted about the prospect of fighting Bivol again.
“I’ve gone through some very difficult things in my life, I’ve actually shown that defeats are great because they enable you to come back and show humility.
“I’m going to keep going to keep my legacy going.”

The loss was only the second of Golovkin’s career. He still holds the IBF and WBA middleweight titles and said after the fight that he would return to 160 pounds for his next, brushing off any suggestion he would retire after the trilogy fight with Alvarez.
“Everybody knows, this is high-level class. This is the best fighter in boxing. Everyone knows who is Canelo. It’s a huge fight. Look at his face, look at my face. We trained well, and this shows that we did a very good-quality fight.
“This fight is more tactical. Today, Canelo is better. Congrats to Canelo.”
Despite speculation that a second loss to Alvarez could result in him walking away from the sport, Golovkin vowed to carry on, telling his legion of fans that he is “still a champion”.
“Absolutely,” the Kazakh said when asked whether he would continue. “I still have this fire burning within me. I have the passion for boxing. Don’t forget I have three belts at 160lbs. I feel great.
“I did not allow any serious shots. I’m tired, I’m fresh. I feel the strength and power within me. Of course, if opportunity presents I will be looking to return in the ring.”

He added: “Congrats to Canelo, congrats to all boxing fans. Remember guys, I have three belts at 160. I can come back guys. I’m still a champion.”

“I’m not p***** off at all (about Fury deciding to fight Joshua). The bigger problem is Tyson Fury is not letting fans see one of the best historical bouts in boxing history,” Usyk told Ring TV.
“That’s his fault. Not mine. Tyson Fury can fight whoever he wants to fight.”
When pushed on who he would like to fight next, Usyk replied: “Deontay Wilder”.

Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) feels what he did in two previous fights with the superstar should have resulted in him getting his hand raised. He thinks that the human factor came into the playground, and he’s hoping that it won’t happen if he knocks out Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) to get the victory.

If it turns out that in the end the result does not match what the fans see, then it is purely for business purposes only. But hopefully, the judges don’t screw things up and pick the wrong fighter because that would taint the outcome and ruin the perception fans have of the Canelo-Golovkin rivalry worse than it already is now. *zz

The 56-year-old said he could take legal action, ”If they’re not going to listen to me, then they’ll have to listen to my King’s Counsel. That fight does not happen.
“If he doesn’t take the advice then I have to put my foot down. Have you ever heard of Russian Roulette?” Eubank said. “When you spin that barrel, that’s what he’s doing and that I can’t let him.
“I’ve given him my direction. If he doesn’t want to follow it, he will be dragged along. But he will do what is right for him, he is coming down 1oz below 160lbs which cannot happen on my watch.”
Eubank Sr added: “This is modern day ‘gladiating’, this is not a play thing for the audience. We have to be strict otherwise lives are put in danger and my son’s life cannot be put in danger.
“I’ve already lost one. It can’t happen again, if you have a child and someone’s trying to actually take that child away from you, and do something wrong to that child, as a dad you wouldn’t let them. That’s all I’m doing.”
His comments were definitely a surprise to both Benn, Nigel and Conor, who also joined the video call and insisted: “All I know was the weight was agreed”.

Eubank Sr urged Conor Benn to remain at his weight class instead pursue the like Errol Spence and Terence Crawford.
“If your dad won’t protect my son, if they won’t allow me to protect my son, you protect him,” Sr told Benn. “Why would I be in his corner, in a fight where he’s coming in, in a situation where he can lose his life.
“He doesn’t know who you are. I know who you are. That fight doesn’t happen unless he fights at 160 and he’s not fighting you because that’s not the way for him.
“I would advise you Conor, not to fight my son at 160, because he has the ability to destroy the rest of your career.”

“You cannot come down in weight, especially against a fighter of the magnitude of Mr king, Conor Benn. This ain’t no joke.”

Fury, who had announced his retirement before the rematch, suddenly cancelled his plan and answered the call. Many fans believed the fight would be the biggest of the undisputed heavyweight champions’ clashes in the modern boxing era.
However, their expectation that this megafight would take place at the end of the year will not be realised. Usyk has explained that he suffered a recurrence of old injuries against AJ and wants to spend time with his family.
The Gipsy King himself has insisted that he wants the fight in December and so accused his rival of ‘running away’ by delaying until 2023. But he has stated to have another fight by mentioning AJ could be a replacement before the clash against Usyk.

“40 per cent of this amazing fight because I want this fight to happen – he doesn’t have any excuses now not to take it. He can’t say I’ve low-balled him and offered him 20, 30 per cent – I’ve offered the people 40 per cent and take it or leave it”.
It remains to be seen whether or not Joshua will take the offer, but with a deal in excess of the 80:20 split for Fury’s last fight with Dillian Whyte, it would represent a generous deal for a fight that people would like to see.
By the way, the Fury’s purse split offer shows it has two meanings; either Fury is not sure he can beat AJ in the Battle of Britain or he is a law-balling fighter. What do you think guys?

FightersTalkTV.com – For the Matchroom boss, Eddie Hearn, the dream of Joshua becoming a three-time heavyweight champion is still very much alive. As is the possibility of fighting Wilder. As is the possibility of fighting Fury.
Hearn is confident of delivering a huge stadium fight between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte next summer as he plots ‘AJ’s return against a top 15-ranked opponent in December. With the path now clear for Usyk and Tyson Fury to fight for the undisputed championship, Joshua will embark on a new stage of his career, one that will likely get underway in the end of the year.
“We’re all gunning for a December return,” Hearn told Sportsmail on Wednesday. “It’s not confirmed, but that’s where everyone’s minds are at.
Hearn expects Joshua's next fight to be in London after his most recent outing in Saudi Arabia Eddie Hearn has laid out his plans for Anthony Joshua after his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
“We’re not booking a venue, but the conversations – as recently as yesterday – was December for his return. I don’t want to start mentioning names, but it’s a top 15 fight.”
Deontay Wilder Turns On The Green Light To Come Back Hearn ruled out a possible long-awaited showdown against Deontay Wilder, though stressing a bout could take place down the line and insisting it would be bigger than an undisputed fight between Usyk and Fury. He also revealed it won’t be former foes Whyte or Andy Ruiz Jr.
“It will be someone credible, who AJ can come back, express himself against and build on what he’s learning in camp,” Hearn added. “He can then build himself back up to fighting for a heavyweight title again.” The likes of Zhilei Zhang and Otto Wallin would certainly fall into that category.
“I’d like to bring him home,” he said. “Look, there’s the Zhang fight. A lot of people think he beat Filip Hrgovic and that’s a big fight in China, but I just feel that the next fight should be in the UK.”
“It will be at the O2 or Manchester Arena, we won’t do a stadium fight,” he added.
With mandatories no longer an issue, and an undisputed showdown no longer an option – for now, anyway – Hearn is planning to get AJ traveling once more after making his return.
“Now Joshua is in control of his own future,” he said. “We can fight who we want, when we want, where we want, and let’s go on an AJ world tour. I want London, I want Vegas, I want Beijing, I want the Middle East, and I want Australia. We can do all of that in a year.”
When asked if Joshua vs Whyte will be targeted for a stadium fight, Hearn said, “For sure, it is a fight we all want.
“The two biggest fights out there away from the world title fight are the Dillian Whyte fight which must happen. It is a huge stadium fight next summer.
“The other is the Deontay Wilder fight which is arguably the biggest fight in boxing – even bigger than Fury vs Usyk, in all honesty. Two big fights and whoever has the belts at the of the summer, we will also be targeting.”
He added: “The Dillian Whyte fight is definitely easier to make than the Wilder fight. But they are, as always, going to be wanted to be paid as much money as possible.
“But I think it is quite easy for me to make that fight. AJ wants that fight, Dillian wants that fight and that’s a fight we will definitely see next summer.

After Joshua fell to a second-straight defeat to Oleksandr Usyk earlier in August, having lost his WBA, WBO, and IBF belts to the Ukrainian mastermind in September last year, his record is now at 24-3. It seems the loss made his journey go blurry, which is driven by his promoter, who is trying his best to find a good fight for him.

FightersTalkTV.com – The collision between the WBO number one rank Joe Joyce and two Joseph Parker got some extra stakes for their clash at the AO Arena, Manchester on September 24. The WBO officially sanctioned it as an interim world heavyweight title fight, citing the ongoing negotiations for Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk.
Nothing technically changes about the fight itself, as it was already scheduled for 12, but it’s nice to see Joyce (14-0, 13 KO) finally get his long-overdue shot. He’s been in line for a crack at the title since stopping Daniel Dubois in November 2020, but the Fury vs Joshua debacle kept him in limbo until the fight collapsed and Usyk got called up to challenge “AJ.”
For Parker (30-2, 21 KO), it’ll be his first crack at a belt since losing the WBO title to Joshua in 2018. He turned down an IBF final eliminator against Filip Hrgovic earlier this year, a move that’s resulted in both a direct shot at the belt and a much more lucrative opponent.

Parker Has Set Goals In what should have been a period of great fulfillment six years ago, there was something missing for Parker that he struggled with at the time. He can now put this void down to chasing dreams that weren’t his own.
Becoming a parent for the first time to Elizabeth made Parker understand his own discontent at a time when he should have been embracing national hero status in his native New Zealand.
“When I wasn’t a father I was doing boxing for myself because I enjoyed it, but mostly for others,” explained Parker on the Unibet Lowdown. “I’m not sure how this sounds, but I was doing it more for my dad because it was his dream and I was doing it more for my coach Kevin (Barry), who wanted to have a heavyweight world champion.
“When I achieved it I sort of wasn’t the happiest, maybe because it was for them. Now that I have my wife and my kids, in boxing, I am a lot more motivated because I want to do it for myself and my immediate family.”

FightersTalkTV.com – The popular YouTuber went to work inside the O2 Arena in London, England on Saturday in the main event of the KSI: 2 Fights, 1 Night card. KSI lived up to his promise to fight twice in the same night as he picked up a pair of knockouts in his return to the ring.
KSI previously faced Logan Paul in back-to-back fights, made quick work of late notice opponent Swarmz before doing much the same to 2-5 professional boxer Luis Alcaraz Pineda.
In KSI’s first bout of the night, he took on rapper Swarmz, who was clearly outmatched from the start. Swarmz was constantly back peddling, while KSI constantly moved forward and didn’t let his foot off the gas. Swarmz went down in the second round and that was all.

KSI’s night wasn’t done here, however. He would later trade leather with pro boxer Luis Alcaraz Pineda. Some felt that Pineda may have proven to be a tough test for KSI. That ultimately wasn’t the case.
Pineda appeared to be more interested in arguing with the referee rather than fighting. KSI ended up dropping Pineda three times in the opening frame. The fight ended up going to the third round, where KSI finished the job.

After his dominant victories, KSI called for a bout with controversial kickboxer Andrew Tate. Tate ended up responding to KSI, claiming that he is a hypocrite, and said he’d accept the challenge.
“Ladies and gentlemen, are you not entertained?” KSI shouted to a packed house at the 02 Arena. “Two fights, one night, two KO’s. I talked the talk and I walked the walk.”
“Slim [Albaher] looks good, I want a piece of that,” KSI said about another fighter on the same card. “Austin [McBroom] vs. AnEson Gib, I want the winner of that. Andrew Tate, I want a piece of that. Tommy Fury, I want a piece of that. I’m warmed up and I’m excited. Nothing can harm me.”
Of course the one name missing was Jake Paul, who had tried to land the fight with KSI after his original opponent fell out due to injury.
“Legit, there’s so many people I need to go through before I get to Jake,” KSI said. “Jake is definitely the main goal but soon come. Just getting my work in, getting my rounds in,” closed KSI.

Paul accepted the challenge but he had a request.
“Good morning guy ‘fighting’ rapper with a t-shirt on. Your hometown & winner takes all. 1000% I accept, but one condition… You have to reply and admit that as of TODAY when it comes to boxing I am better”
KSI followed up, making it clear that he wants this fight to go down.
“As of today in boxing you’re better. Let’s run it b***h.”

FightersTalkTV.com – After four years as the WBO middleweight champion, Demetrius Andrade has officially vacated the belt. He will now be moving up to 168 in hopes of positioning himself for a big money payday against undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez. It makes interim Janibek Alimkhanuly has been moved up to the new champ.
It doesn’t come as a complete surprise that the American Andrade has chosen to vacate his WBO 160lb belt, as he never seemed excited about the prospect of fighting the unbeaten 2016 Olympian Janibek (12-0, 8 KOs) from the get-go, as that would have been a very grueling fight at this stage of his 14-year professional career.

Andrade is more focused on trying to force a title shot against four-belt super middleweight champion Canelo because there’s a heck of a lot more dough for him to make in a fight against the Mexican star.
The Rhode Island native Andrade captured his WBO title in October 2018, beating Walter Kautondokwa 12 round unanimous decision. In the for years that Demetrius held onto the WBO belt, he successfully defended it five times against lesser opposition.
Andrade had hoped when he moved up to 168 that he would be able to use his WBO belt to get well-paying fights against Canelo, Gennady Golovkin, and Jermal Charlo. Unfortunately for him, none of those fighters showed any interest in fighting him, which isn’t surprising given that he’s a crafty southpaw with excellent power and size.

The only noteable fighter that would be willing to fight him ata 168 is David Benavidez, and that’s not a good match-up for Demetrius. Benavidez is too young, strong, and big for the aging Andrade.
If Andrade sticks it out at 168, the best he could hope for fight is against Benavidez, John Ryder, Edgar Berlanga, Caleb Plant, and Anthony Dirrel. Some of those guys likely won’t want to mix it up with Andrade because of his slick fighting style and power.
It’s difficult to imagine Caleb Plant agreeing to fight Andrade because he’s trying to get a rematch with Canelo, and he doesn’t want to lose again.

Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) had undoubtedly one of the biggest upsets in recent memory when he outclassed Canelo Alvarez this past May. Though many knew going into the bout Bivol would be a hard test for the undisputed super middleweight champ, Bivol didn’t just prove those theories right but went as far as to make it seem Canelo didn’t even belong in the ring with him.

Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez runs a perfect record and has held the WBO super middleweight title. He has been yearning for a big fight for years now, and though he didn’t get a big fight against Canelo like he has been asking for, facing off against one of two men to defeat him in the last 10 years is a great conciliation prize.
Devin Haney vs George Kambosos II: Confirmed to Fight on October 16 Ramirez’s last outing was a fourth-round knockout win against Dominic Boesel in May. With 30 of his 44 wins coming by stoppage, Ramirez has proved he brings power into the ring, and with a crafty boxer like Bivol, catching him with a patented power shot will be pivotal to defeat him.
Despite that, he hasn’t done much since moving up to 175 in 2019 and focused on beating middle-of-the-road fodder level opposition to pad his record. He gained nearly 30 pounds in going from 174 to 203. The thing is, he didn’t look fat at the weight. He was just painfully slow and looked like a fighter that had packed on too much weight.

FightersTalkTV.com – The WBC heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has decided to stay in boxing and continue his career. That is mean the ‘Gipsy King’ ready for the next fight and retain his green and gold belt. Fury has instructed his promoters to inform the WBC that he intends to continue fighting, Sky Sport reported.
Fury, 34, had floated the prospect of retiring and the WBC had given him until Friday August 26 to confirm whether or not he would retain its belt. But the WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman had extended Fury’s deadline to next Friday, September 2, due to the news that Fury’s cousin was stabbed to death earlier this week.
Sulaiman tweeted: “The @WBCBoxing acknowledging the tragedy which happened in the Fury family and in respect of their grief has decided to extend one week until Friday September 2 the official decision of @Tyson_Fury regarding his status as heavyweight.”
The news is expexted by many, that an undisputed championship fight with Oleksandr Usyk, the recent conqueror of Anthony Joshua, is still firmly in Fury’s sights. After his last bout Usyk went as far to declare that the only contest he was interested in now was Fury.
Fury continued to leave the door open when Oleksandr Usyk won in his rematch against Anthony Joshua, retaining the WBA, WBO and IBF titles. Fury posted a video on social media saying that he would “annihilate” Usyk.
Tyson Fury Wants £500 Million For Usyk Super Fight Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk has already told Sky Sports the Tyson Fury fight is “in the making”. Fury’s decision to retain the WBC belt is another step towards that showdown.
“Both fighters want it,” Frank Warren, Fury’s co-promoter has said.
“I’m confident we can make it happen and crown Tyson Fury as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. It will be the biggest heavyweight fight in my time in boxing.”
Sulaiman is also praised Fury and hopes the fight goes ahead.
“Tyson Fury is the WBC champion of the world, he’s not holding the ‘other belt’, he’s holding the WBC Championship which is the Championship of Muhammed Ali, George Foreman, Frazier, Tyson, Lennox Lewis etc,” Sulaiman told Sky Sports.

FightersTalkTV.com – The trainer Robert Garcia, who has accompanied Anthony Joshua since eight months before the Usyk rematch, admitted the fighter was mentally defeated in round 10. He realized it when Oleksandr Usyk came back strong after a big ninth round for AJ in which they thought would win the fight.
“Joshua was mentally defeated since round 10 or 11,” Rober Garcia told Izquierdazo. “Round 10 was a big one for Usyk. That changed the whole fight, and mentally we were defeated. At that point, we were relying on a good shot or something like that, because Anthony is a hard puncher, and one shot can change a fight. That is what we were hopping for, one shot, because he (AJ) was dominated at that point of the fight.”
Joshua lost by way of split decision to Usyk, who successfully defended his IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight belts after staging a late surge against the British challenger. Garcia claims his fighter was his own worst enemy as Usyk lifted himself from the tenth round, which entirely changed the complexion of the bout.

“In this fight, I think that Usyk was mentally stronger. I think he was stronger, to the point that after being close to a knockout, instead of giving up, he came back stronger. His will and his desire to demonstrate to his country that he couldn’t let himself lose the fight, made him come back.
“He wanted to give a message to his country, for everything that is happening there. He is a big inspiration for them [Ukrainians]. His mind was what made him turn the tide in the fight and get him to victory. And I think that Anthony’s mind is a bit weaker than Usyk’s, because instead of going out stronger, his mind and exhaustion played games with him.

Garcia is right, Usyk is a great fighter who knows how to finish a fight like a champion does. Particularly in response to AJ’s throw belts moment.

FightersTalkTV.com – Following Oleksandr Usyk’s repeat win over Anthony Joshua and calling out Fury at the post-fight press conference, many want Fury to end his retirement and face the Ukrainian for the undisputed heavyweight title.
Fury, who took social media immediately after the fight, said those people who wish to see him fight against Usyk have to get their checkbooks out. And he wasn’t joking, he wants a half billion to fight “Ukrainian dosser” Usyk. Fury really showing zero class towards Usyk, a man who has literally been fighting for his country.
“If you want those belts back, let’s send in the Gypsy barbarian of England, come on,” said Fury.
“Send me in. I will relieve the Ukrainian dosser of his belts like I did the last Ukrainian dosser. But it’s not gonna be cheap. The world’s biggest fight has to be the world’s biggest money, if I’m going to put it all on the line against some unknown foreigner,” he wrote.
“Boys, better get that half a billy. If not, keep that little mug. If it was AJ it would have been free but it’s not”.
Fury also yesterday issued an ultimatum for organisers to arrange an undisputed heavyweight title fight against Usyk by next Thursday.
“To all these suitors out there who want to make the fight, I’m going to give you all seven days, until September 1, to come up with the money,” said Fury.
“If not, thank you very much, it’s been a blast. I’m retired,” Fury said on social media.
He added, “All offers submitted must be to my lawyer Robert Davis in writing with proof of funds. So let the games begin. Boom!”
World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman, meanwhile, praised Fury and hopes the fight goes ahead.
“Tyson Fury is the WBC champion of the world, he’s not holding the ‘other belt’, he’s holding the WBC Championship which is the Championship of Muhammed Ali, George Foreman, Frazier, Tyson, Lennox Lewis etc,” Sulaiman told Sky Sports

FightersTalkTV.com – Since winning the IBF and The Ring titles in 2019, which were his two first international crowns, Naoya Inoue finally has a chance to complete all four majors and become the undisputed bantamweight world champion by the end of the year. Inoue and Paul Butler have agreed to terms for an undisputed clash on December 13th in Japan.
WBO bantamweight champion Butler (32-2, 15 KOs) figures to be a huge underdog against the big-punch Inoue (23-0, 20 KOs), who looks unbeatable at this point in his career. “The Monster” Inoue, who has an 86% knockout ratio, won the WBC and the WBA (Super) titles by defeating Nonito Donaire in their two fights in 2019 and 2022.
With coming off as a winner, Inoue will possess all four titles in the 118lb weight class and decide whether to move up to 122 and attempt to collect all the belts or stay at bantamweight and defend his four straps.
Inoue, 29, stopped and knocked out Donaire in the second round in their rematch last June in Saitama, Japan. Donaire had given Inoue huge problems in their first match in November 2019, losing a grueling 12-round unanimous decision in a fight that saw both fighters hurt.
By the time Inoue finally got around to giving Donaire a rematch and it was a total slaughter. The 39-year-old Donaire had slowed down considerably from their first fight and was easy pickings for the superstar Inoue in the rematch.
Inoue defended his WBA/IBF titles while claiming Donaire’s WBC crown, becoming Japan’s first-ever three-belt titleholder in boxing history. He now aims to become the nation’s first-ever undisputed champion in the three- or four-belt era and Japan’s first undisputed champion in the splintered title era since 1975.

Whoever gets out as a winner will be the first undisputed champion at bantamweight in close to 50 years. Especially for Inoue, if he made it, then he would put his name in history as a legend in the sport who completed all four major crowns in less than four years.

The collision is between number one and two in the WBO rankings, in which the belt is held by Oleksandr Usyk.
The unbeaten Joyce (14-0, 13 KOs) – a 2016 Olympic silver medallist — holds the WBO International and WBC Silver heavyweight titles and is a former British, Commonwealth and European champion.
Parker (30-2, 21 KOs) previously held the WBO world title, winning the vacant belt against Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2016 and making successful defenses against Razvan Cojanu and Hughie Fury before losing on points in a unification fight against Anthony Joshua.

A relieved Frank Warren said: “It is one the fans want to see, so I am delighted to be taking this blockbuster fight to Manchester, the biggest indoor arena in the country, which we want to see packed to the rafters.”

The 23-year-old American Haney retained his WBC lightweight title and added three more from the weight class after his unanimous points decision over Kambosos in front of more than 41,000 spectators at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium in June.

With that victory, Haney improved his undefeated record to 28-0 with 15 knockouts. He said he was happy to defend his belts and wanted to show how much he’s improved.
