Visa Issue Delays Makabu at WBC Cruiserweight Title Fight Press Conference
Renowned promoter Don King remains unfazed as Ilunga Junior Makabu misses the final pre-fight press conference ahead of his WBC cruiserweight title bout against Noel Mikaelyan. The showdown is set to headline a Pay-Per-View event this Saturday at Casino Miami Jai Alai in Miami, Florida. All participants graced the promotional event's stage except for Makabu, the former titleholder, who is currently en route from Johannesburg, South Africa. "Makabu sent me a message, assuring me he'll be here," said King with a smile, highlighting the visa issue that currently detains the Congolese southpaw (29-3, 25KOs). King remains confident that the issue will be resolved in time for Saturday's event. Makabu, aged 35, seeks to reclaim the WBC cruiserweight title he held for three years. His previous defeat came at the hands of Badou Jack, who has since vacated the title. Notably, Makabu's opportunity for a title shot comes against the very challenger he previously sidestepped in favor of facing Jack. Noel Mikaelyan, the mandatory challenger for over a year, has been patiently waiting for his shot at the title. The Armenia-born, German boxer, has no qualms about the delay, stating, "I don't care. The most important thing is that he's in the ring on Saturday. If not, then I will be very disappointed." Makabu vs. Mikaelyan will be broadcast live on DonKing.com and Fite TV, starting at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Pay-Per-View event is available for purchase at a suggested retail price of $19.99 plus tax. Enjoy the thrilling contest as two skilled fighters vie for the prestigious WBC cruiserweight title.
