Tyson Fury Takes a Neutral Stance on Joshua vs. Wilder Matchup

The much-anticipated and oft-negotiated clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder has yet to materialize, and the latest update from Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn indicates that a January showdown is unlikely. Hearn explained, "Myself and Shelly [Finkel, Wilder's adviser] continue to talk, but we look at Vegas and we look at some people making offers, some people wasting time out in the Middle East, but we have to explore those options. So all I can tell you is January is definitely not happening." Tyson Fury, who is set to face Francis Ngannou in an exhibition match on Saturday and is lined up for an undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk in December, refrained from expressing an opinion on whether Joshua could defeat Wilder. Fury has had multiple high-profile encounters with Wilder, boasting a record of 2-0-1, with the "1" being the controversial draw in their trilogy. The prospect of a bout with Joshua has also been a hot topic in the past. Fury offered a cryptic comment on the ongoing situation, saying, "They're both out in the cold and they're both frozen, so it don't really matter," when asked about Joshua's chances against Wilder. Wilder's trainer, Malik Scott, has expressed his belief that Joshua is not keen on facing Deontay. Scott suggested that Joshua's reluctance might stem from the stylistic matchup, with Wilder having the potential to exploit his weaknesses. In response, Hearn rebutted the notion that Joshua is the one avoiding the fight. He pointed out that Wilder hasn't fought in a year, with his last match lasting a mere 40 seconds, while Joshua has been more active. The status of the Joshua vs. Wilder clash remains uncertain, but the boxing world continues to speculate on whether this highly anticipated bout will eventually come to fruition.
