RYAN GARCIA SAYS HE COULD KNOCK OUT PRIME MAYWEATHER
In a recent statement that's sure to raise eyebrows in the boxing world, Ryan Garcia asserted that he could knock out Floyd Mayweather in his prime. The young contender, set to face Devin Haney on April 20 for his shot at a world title, is exuding confidence ahead of the bout.
Garcia, with a record of 24-1 including 20 knockouts, has a history of stopping opponents in the ring. His latest victory, an eighth-round knockout of Oscar Duarte, showcased his formidable punching power. However, concerns have been raised about Garcia's mental state leading up to the Haney fight, with reports of substance use and erratic behavior.
Despite these concerns, Garcia remains steadfast in his belief in his abilities. He boldly declared his intention to stop both Haney and Mayweather in their tracks, displaying unwavering confidence in his punching prowess.
Regarding Mayweather, Garcia stated, "In his prime, I honestly believe I could knock out Floyd Mayweather. If you don’t like the answer, I’m doing 98% of this. I don’t really care what he does. I’m going to walk towards him with my hands down and knock him out. I guarantee it."
However, Garcia must be cautious not to repeat past mistakes, particularly his loss to Gervonta Davis where he was caught off guard and ultimately defeated. Recognizing the importance of defense, Garcia has been working with renowned coach Derrick James to shore up his skills.
As for the upcoming bout with Haney, Garcia remains confident in his ability to emerge victorious. He ominously warned, "He’s going to be knocked out in any round I want him to be knocked out in. If I want to torture him in the ring, I will."
A win for Garcia would solidify his status as one of boxing's rising stars. However, a loss could be a significant setback in his career trajectory. With the stakes higher than ever, Garcia is prepared to stake his claim as one of the sport's elite competitors.
