This revamped international spectacle, to be broadcast live on Abema in Japan and DAZN worldwide (excluding Asia), marks the beginning of a three-year commitment to three world-class events per year in Japan.
The tournament's debut night promises a $100k knockout bonus, with four bouts over 10 rounds. The stakes rise as the event progresses, culminating in 12-round bouts in later stages. At the launch press conference, Japan's Riku Kunimoto defends his title against Eiki Kani, with the UK's Kieron Conway facing off against China's Ainiwaer Yilixiati.
Wildcard entry Mark Dickinson might face off against France’s Anauel Ngamissengue if he can overcome the undefeated Olympian. Additionally, Ireland’s Aaron McKenna squares off against American-Puerto Rican Jeovanny Estela, both eager to prove their mettle on the international stage.
Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith expressed excitement, describing the Prizefighter series as a thrilling spectacle that captures attention globally. The tournament promises tough 50-50 fights and adds an extra layer of intensity with the substantial knockout bonus.
Rakuten Ticket, Inc. President Joe Umemot emphasized their commitment to diversifying Japan's sporting landscape, anticipating a captivating experience for fans globally. Joel Borràs, President and founder of NSN, hailed the historic moment, stating that the $1 million prize would showcase the best Middleweights and make boxing history.
The original Prizefighter series, staged from 2008 to 2015, propelled fighters like Rocky Fielding and Terry Flanagan to world title levels. Now, a new generation of talent aims to follow in their footsteps and secure No.1 status in this reimagined format.
