PBC Unveils Plans: Gervonta Davis and Canelo Alvarez Set for Prime Spotlight in Vegas"
Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) is gearing up for a groundbreaking move, shifting from Showtime to Amazon Prime for its upcoming events. The deal, starting in 2024, promises a mix of 12-14 Pay-Per-View (PPV) and non-PPV events annually, with Prime Video as the exclusive distributor in the US. The first PBC on Prime event is set to hit screens in March.
According to ProBox TV, TGB Promotions, PBC's go-to promoter, has reserved NSAC holds for potential events on February 24, March 2, March 23, and March 30. Insiders suggest that the inaugural PBC on Prime show is likely to take place on March 30 in Las Vegas.
While there's anticipation around Gervonta "Tank" Davis's next opponent, it seems Frank Martin is not the immediate contender. As for Canelo Alvarez, a potential clash with Jermall Charlo is in the cards, with a hold for May 4 on the NSAC calendar.
PBC's move to Amazon Prime follows the sunset of Paramount's Showtime Sports brand. The shift aims to continue the success seen in Las Vegas last year, where PBC, under Al Haymon's guidance, organized some of the year's top-selling bouts, featuring the likes of David Benavidez, Tank Davis, and Canelo Alvarez.
Despite rivals hosting events and unveiling schedules, PBC has remained silent, building anticipation for their return to the boxing scene. The upcoming announcement is expected to reveal not just an event but a strategic move towards recurring tentpole events in Vegas throughout 2024.
With a focus on the May 4 event, insiders suggest that Canelo's opponent is more likely to be Jermall Charlo than Jaime Munguia. If the strategy laid out earlier holds, Canelo's second fight of the year, potentially in September, could see him facing David Benavidez in a two-fight deal, including a rematch clause.
Stay tuned as PBC prepares to make a splash with its first event announcement, expected in the coming week.
