Oscar De La Hoya Knocks Out Jorge Páez To Win Second World Title

Oscar De La Hoya made another rapid climb through the weight classes by stopping veteran Jorge “El Maromero” Páez in two rounds to capture the vacant WBO lightweight championship on July 29, 1994, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The victory earned the 21-year-old Olympic gold medalist a second world title in only his 14th professional bout.
