Ngannou's Quest for Redemption The Desire for a Tyson Fury Rematch
Francis Ngannou, the former UFC champion from Cameroon, is making it clear that he's not content with his recent boxing debut against WBC titlist Tyson Fury. Despite being a heavy underdog, Ngannou surprised many with his impressive performance in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last Saturday night. He even sent Fury to the canvas in the third round, in a fight that ultimately ended with Fury narrowly clinching a 10-round split decision victory. Ngannou firmly believes he deserved the win and has dubbed the result a "robbery." Now, Ngannou is vocal about his desire for a rematch with Tyson Fury. Speaking to TMZ, he stated, "The rematch is what I want next the most. As for right now, I feel like there is a lot of options for me, but I want to choose wisely. And I would go for the rematch first." However, the prospect of a Ngannou-Fury rematch is unlikely to materialize anytime soon, given that Fury is already scheduled to face Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship in February, also in Riyadh. Ngannou floated the idea of Usyk potentially stepping aside to allow the rematch to happen, but it remains highly improbable. Ngannou is currently under contract with the Professional Fighters League (PFL), although he hasn't made his debut in the organization yet. Exploring his options, he suggested that he might participate in an MMA fight in the spring before returning to the boxing ring later in the year. In Ngannou's words, "My best scenario in boxing is to wait for Fury. If Usyk can step out and let me fight Fury, I’ll fight Fury. Then I’ll let them do whatever they do. I’ll go back, maybe do some MMA fight and come back and take on some opponents in boxing. I’m planning to fight potentially twice next year, maybe in February or March. If it doesn’t work out, I can still fight in MMA in February or March. Then, by the end of the year, perhaps in October, as it will give me at least seven to eight months to recover from my MMA fight in case something happens." Francis Ngannou's determination to secure a rematch with Tyson Fury and his willingness to explore multiple combat sports avenues demonstrate his commitment to making a significant impact in the world of combat sports, regardless of the challenges he may face. Fans can only wait and watch to see how Ngannou's journey unfolds in the coming year.
