Henry Armstrong made boxing history on August 17, 1938, when he defeated lightweight champion Lou Ambers by split decision over 15 punishing rounds at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The victory made Armstrong the first and still the only boxer to simultaneously hold world championships in the featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight divisions.
