Diego Pacheco's Brutal Uppercut Seals Victory Against Coceres Eddie Hearn Eyes 2024 Showdown with Berlanga

Diego Pacheco, 22, showcased his dominance with another remarkable knockout win, extending his undefeated streak in a thrilling match against Marcelo Coceres at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood. Headlining a Matchroom show on DAZN, Pacheco faced the seasoned Argentine fighter, Coceres, known for his past bouts against Edgar Berlanga and Billy Joe Saunders. Throughout the nine rounds, Pacheco displayed superior prowess, outstriking Coceres in nearly every round. Employing his jab and precise one-two combinations, Pacheco controlled the tempo while absorbing occasional body shots from his opponent. Despite Coceres' resilience and ability to land head shots, he struggled to surpass Pacheco's calculated offense. An interesting turn occurred in the eighth round, where both fighters engaged in a heated exchange unlike anything witnessed earlier. Pacheco's hooks found their mark, significantly rattling Coceres and setting the stage for the conclusive moment. The fight took a decisive turn in the ninth, as a vicious Pacheco uppercut sent Coceres crashing to the canvas, prompting the referee to count him out. Notably, Compubox data revealed Coceres' high activity, throwing 228 shots compared to Pacheco's 194 by the end of the seventh round. However, Pacheco's strategic shift in the latter rounds saw a surge in his performance, landing 25 significant combinations in rounds eight and nine after just 32 in the previous seven. With his record now at an impressive 20-0 (17 KOs), attention turns to Pacheco's future bouts. Matchroom's Eddie Hearn expressed interest in a potential showdown between Pacheco and Edgar Berlanga, emphasizing the magnitude of such a clash in 2024. Hearn acknowledged Berlanga's pursuit of major opponents like Mungia and Canelo Alvarez but highlighted Pacheco's rising prominence, suggesting that continued victories could propel Pacheco into contention for high-profile matchups.
