Anthony Joshua advised on next opponent by Matchroom founder

A week is a long time in boxing, let alone six of them.

It has been six weeks since Anthony Joshua’s world came crashing down when he was completely demolished by Daniel Dubois in front of 96,000 people at Wembley Stadium.

Instantaneously after the fight ended, many people within the sport questioned what is next for ‘AJ’.

At 35-years-old, Joshua does not have long left in the sport, therefore if he has any desire of becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion, then the rematch is really his only option for his next bout.

However, last week his promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that he is carrying an injury, which may delay his return.

Moreover, the IBF have set a deadline of April 22nd for when the rematch must take place by, or Dubois will have to fight his mandatory challenger.

Therefore, time is running out for Joshua and because of his apparent injury there is potential that he will not face Dubois next.Brit aiming for undisputed title shot in two fights’ time

Founder of Matchroom, father of Eddie, Barry Hearn has had his say on who he thinks Joshua should face next.

Speaking on the latest instalment of The Barry Hearn Show, Barry Hearn said, “”Personally, I think I’d swerve that,” in relation to a potential Dubois rematch.

“I think Dubois is dangerous and he’s going to be super confident after the last job. I still believe AJ would probably beat him in a rematch if he boxed differently, but that’s just my opinion.

“A Daniel Dubois rematch would be a big fight. But if Oleksandr Usyk beats Tyson Fury – and I think he’s the favourite to beat Tyson Fury, possibly this time by stoppage – then the most sensible thing would be one or two fights with Tyson Fury.”

Barry Hearn revealed that if he were Joshua he would not take the rematch and instead wait for a potential fight with Tyson Fury.

Despite the fight potentially not being as big as it could have been a few years back, there is no doubt that it would be viewed as a complete failure if we never saw the pair face off in the ring.
