Tevin Farmer Hungry for Redemption in Rematch with William Zepeda
Fresh from soaking up the sun in Zanzibar post-fight, Tevin Farmer made a triumphant return to the US filled with reflections and a whole lot of swagger. Although he narrowly missed out on victory in a split decision against William Zepeda in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Farmer's performance undeniably solidified his standing as a top lightweight in the ring.
In a thrilling showdown for the WBC interim lightweight title, Farmer, with a record of 31-6-1 (6 KOs), gave the undefeated Zepeda, boasting a record of 32-0 (27 KOs), a run for his money. Farmer even managed to drop Zepeda with a stunning left hand in the fourth round. Despite his knockdown and commendable efforts, Farmer fell short on two judges' scorecards by slim margins of 95-94, with only one judge scoring in his favor.
Sharing his excitement about fighting in Saudi Arabia, Farmer, who is the great-great-nephew of the legendary Joe Gans, said, "It was my second time fighting abroad, and the experience was amazing. Though I believed I won, overall, it was an unforgettable journey."
Farmer's strategic adaptability and ring intelligence shone through in his preparations for the fight. "Zepeda's team expected me to box, so I switched it up," Farmer revealed. "Against aggressive volume punchers like Zepeda, you can't sit back. You have to take charge, be the aggressor, and set the pace. I showed a different side of my fighting style in that bout."
The highlight of the fight was Farmer's well-timed knockdown in the fourth round, demonstrating his precision and skill. "I noticed Zepeda's habits early on, and in the fourth round, I seized the opportunity with my straight left," Farmer explained. "I've proven my power before, and dropping a top contender like Zepeda only adds to that."
Despite recent close losses, Farmer remains resolute in his belief in his abilities. "My bouts against Muratalla and Zepeda reaffirmed my skills and readiness to take on anyone in the division," Farmer affirmed confidently.
Lou DiBella, Farmer's promoter, sang praises of Farmer's performance, stating, "Tevin Farmer deserves recognition for his display in the ring. He held his ground against the top lightweight contender and secured the fight's sole knockdown. Tevin is a force to be reckoned with and will triumph in a major bout again."
Eager for a rematch with Zepeda or another significant fight, Farmer declared, "I'm hungry for more challenges. My recent fights have proven that Tevin Farmer is a force to be reckoned with in the ring, and I'm ready for whatever comes my way."
