American welterweight prospect shot dead
Welterweight boxer Mylik Roashun Birdsong (15-1-1, 10 KOs) tragically passed away on Sunday, September 28, after being fatally shot outside his home in Los Angeles.
According to LAPD, Birdsong was standing outside his residence in the Florence-Graham area when a dark-colored SUV drove by and opened fire. The boxer attempted to run toward his home, but two suspects exited the vehicle and chased him, continuing to shoot. Birdsong was found by first responders in his driveway, having sustained seven gunshot wounds to the torso. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Nicknamed "Gifted Black Sheep," Birdsong held a solid record and had won a WBF International title. He was set to face Armenian Gor Yeritsyan on October 26 at Commerce Casino in LA. Just a day before his death, he had posted a video on Instagram, proudly showing off his new puppy.
The suspects fled the scene in the SUV, and the investigation is ongoing.
