About

Robeisy Ramirez is one of the most accomplished boxers in the history of amateur boxing. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having won the flyweight title in 2012 and the bantamweight title in 2016. He is also a three-time world champion, a four-time Pan American champion, and a two-time Central American and Caribbean champion. He has defeated some of the best fighters in his weight classes, such as Shakur Stevenson, Andy Cruz, and Michael Conlan. Ramirez was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, on December 20, 1993. He started boxing at the age of nine, following his older brother's footsteps. He soon showed his talent and dedication, winning national and international tournaments as a junior. He made his senior debut in 2010, at the age of 16, and won the gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. He also won the gold medal at the Youth World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, that same year. In 2011, Ramirez qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London by winning the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was one of the youngest boxers in the flyweight division, but he proved his skills and experience by defeating opponents from Brazil, Mongolia, Ireland, and Great Britain. He faced Tugstsogt Nyambayar of Mongolia in the final, and won by a split decision, becoming the Olympic champion at the age of 18. In 2013, Ramirez moved up to the bantamweight division and won his first world title at the World Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He defeated Javid Chalabiyev of Azerbaijan in the final by a unanimous decision. He also won the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico, that same year. In 2015, Ramirez defended his world title at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar. He beat Shiva Thapa of India in the final by a unanimous decision. He also won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, that same year. In 2016, Ramirez qualified for his second Olympics in Rio de Janeiro by winning the gold medal at the American Qualification Tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was one of the favorites to win the bantamweight title, and he did not disappoint. He defeated opponents from Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Morocco, and Cuba. He faced Shakur Stevenson of the United States in the final, and won by a split decision, becoming a two-time Olympic champion at the age of 22. In 2017, Ramirez decided to turn professional and signed with Top Rank Promotions. He made his pro debut on August 10, 2019, against Adan Gonzales of Mexico. In a shocking upset, Ramirez lost by a split decision, suffering his first defeat in over six years. However, he bounced back from that loss and won his next six fights by knockout or unanimous decision. He is currently ranked as one of the top prospects in the featherweight division. Ramirez is known for his southpaw stance, his speed, his footwork, his ring intelligence, and his versatility. He can box from a distance or fight on the inside. He can adapt to different styles and situations. He has a record of 12 wins and 1 loss as a professional boxer, with 7 wins by knockout. He is still young and has a bright future ahead of him.
