About

Josh Taylor is a Scottish professional boxer who has risen to prominence in recent years thanks to his impressive performances in the ring. Born on January 2, 1991, in Prestonpans, Scotland, Taylor had a successful amateur career before turning professional in 2015. He is currently signed with Cyclone Promotions and trains under the guidance of Shane McGuigan. Taylor had a successful amateur career, amassing a record of 167 wins and only 42 losses. He represented Scotland in the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games, winning a silver medal in 2010. He also represented Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics, but was unfortunately eliminated in the quarterfinals. In his professional career, Taylor has fought in the super lightweight division and has won numerous titles. He currently holds the WBA, IBF, and Ring Magazine titles, as well as the coveted Muhammad Ali Trophy which he won in the World Boxing Super Series. He has a record of 18 wins and no losses, with 13 of those wins coming by way of knockout. One of Taylor's most notable fights was against Regis Prograis in the World Boxing Super Series final in 2019. The fight was highly anticipated, with both fighters holding unbeaten records going into the bout. In a closely contested battle, Taylor emerged victorious, winning by majority decision. The fight was widely regarded as one of the best of 2019, with Taylor's grit and determination being praised by boxing fans and pundits alike. Another notable fight for Taylor was against Jose Ramirez in May 2021, which was a unification bout for the WBA, IBF, WBC, and WBO titles. In a dominant performance, Taylor won by unanimous decision, becoming the first Scottish boxer to hold all four titles in a weight division. Taylor has not been without controversy, however. In 2020, he was embroiled in a social media storm after he made comments that were deemed to be derogatory towards women. He later apologized for his comments, but the incident served as a reminder of the importance of sports figures being mindful of their words and actions. Overall, Josh Taylor has established himself as one of the top boxers in the world. With his impressive record and notable victories, he has become a fan favorite and a role model for aspiring boxers.
